How to remove front and rear bumper VW New Beetle (1997-2011)

Depending on the year of manufacture, the attachment points may differ slightly.

According to the instructions, the bumper must be removed together with the fenders, but it is not always possible to unscrew the fenders from the body. Below will be described how to remove the bumper without fenders. The only problem will be the screws that connect the bumpers to the fenders. It is very difficult to unscrew these screws, but it is possible.

Front bumper

-open the hood.

-under the hood, unscrew the four screws that secure the top of the bumper.

-remove the headlights (to remove the headlight, you need to turn the lever 180 degrees and press the latch).

-through the headlight openings, unscrew two screws on each side that secure the bumper to the fenders.

-from the bottom side, unscrew the screws (twisted from bottom to top) that secure the lower part of the bumper and fender linings.

-turn the wheels to the side.

-Unscrew the screws in the wheel arches and release the wheel arch liners (front part).

-Push the wheel arch liners to the side and Unscrew the screws that secure the corners of the bumper to the fenders.

-with an assistant, gently pull the bumper forward (look behind the wires).

-disconnect the connectors of the electrical equipment (if any).

Rear bumper

-open the trunk lid.

-in the opening of the trunk, Unscrew the six screws that secure the bumper and four that secure the fenders.

-in the side trims of the trunk, open the plugs, unscrew the plastic nuts behind them and pull out the taillights.

-through the openings of the rear lights, unscrew two screws on each side that secure the bumper to the fenders.

-from the bottom side, unscrew the screws and nuts (screwed from bottom to top) that secure the bottom of the bumper.

-in the wheel arches, unscrew the screws and release the wheel arch liners (rear part).

-behind the wheel arch liners, unscrew the screws (twisted from bottom to top) that secure the corners of the bumper through the clamping strips to the wings.

-with an assistant, we pull the bumper back (look behind the wires).

-we disconnect the connectors of the electrical equipment.
