The first generation Audi A5 debuted in spring 2007, becoming a significant milestone in the brand's history. This was Audi's first coupe developed from scratch, not just a derivative of a sedan. Designated internally as Typ 8T, the model immediately captivated audiences with its elegant design, thoughtful ergonomics, and excellent dynamics.

Design and Platform

The A5 I was built on the modular MLB platform that later became the basis for many Audi models. The design was developed under Walter de Silva's direction, creating smooth, harmonious lines with the recognizable Singleframe grille. The coupe featured a long hood, sloping roofline, and wide track, emphasizing its sporty character.

Production Years and Facelift

Production of the first-generation A5 started in 2007 and continued until 2016. In 2011, the model underwent a facelift that included:

  • Lighting: New LED headlights and redesigned taillights

  • Grille: More angular and aggressive design

  • Technical updates: Revised engines and expanded options list

Model Variants

The A5 I was offered in several body styles:

  • Coupe (2 doors) - Classic coupe focusing on style and handling

  • Sportback (5 doors, 2009) - Unique 5-door fastback combining practicality and elegance

  • Cabriolet (2010) - Convertible version with soft folding top

There was also the sporty S5 version (3.0 TFSI, 3.0 TDI, and 4.2 FSI) and the top-tier RS5 (4.2 V8 FSI, 450 hp) introduced in 2010.
