Production Years and Model Codes

The third generation Mazda 6 (Mk3) debuted in 2012 and was produced until 2024 (in some countries including Japan and the U.S., sales ended between 2021-2023). Body codes:

Front Bumper Removal

  1. Open the hood.

  2. Unscrew two bolts securing the air intake (no need to remove it, there's a clip underneath).

  3. Remove six clips and unscrew four bolts securing the top of the bumper.

  4. Access underneath the vehicle, unscrew ten bolts and remove two clips securing the lower covers.

  5. Bend the center cover down and remove two more clips underneath.

  6. To avoid wheel removal, turn them fully.

  7. (Both sides) Remove three clips securing the fender liner, move it aside and unscrew one bolt (8 mm) securing the angle to the plastic bracket in the fender.

  8. Release the locks in the fenders, pull firmly on the corners toward you.

  9. The bumper is now held by two locking pins (marked red in the image). With assistance, gently pull the bumper forward (watch for cables and hoses).

  10. Disconnect electrical connectors (if present).

  11. (If equipped) Disconnect the headlight washer nozzle common hose from the pump (prepare container for fluid).

Rear Bumper Removal

  1. Open the trunk.

  2. In the trunk compartment, remove two covers and unscrew two bolts underneath.

  3. Release the edges of the trunk side covers (to access taillights).

  4. Under the covers, unscrew three nuts per side and remove the taillights (secured by clips in fenders, pull parallel toward you).

  5. Under the taillights, unscrew one bolt per side.

  6. Underneath, remove two clips and unscrew four bolts securing the lower bumper.

  7. In wheel arches, unscrew two bolts per side.

  8. Release the locks in the fenders (pull the corners toward you).

  9. (With help) Gently remove the bumper backward (watch for cables).

  10. Disconnect parking sensor connectors.

Gasoline:
2.0L SkyActiv-G (145-165 hp) - base version,
2.5L SkyActiv-G (184-194 hp) - optimal power/consumption balance,
