The third generation Range Rover, known by its factory designation L322, debuted in 2002 and became a true breakthrough in the premium SUV segment. This model didn't just continue the legendary lineage but raised the bar for comfort, technology and design to new heights.
Model Code and Platform
L322 is the internal designation for the third Range Rover, developed under BMW's guidance (who owned Land Rover at the time). Later, after being sold to Ford and then to India's Tata Motors, the model was refined while maintaining its core architecture. Interestingly, the vehicle was initially based on the BMW E38 platform (from the 7 Series), explaining its exceptional comfort and handling uncharacteristic of traditional SUVs.
Facelifts and Evolution
During its production run (2002-2012), the Range Rover III underwent several updates:
First phase (2002-2005) - featured BMW engines: 4.4L V8 petrol and 3.0L TD6 diesel. The interior showcased aluminum accents and classic design language inherited from the previous generation, but with more modern electronics.
2005 facelift - after Land Rover came under Ford's control, the model received new Jaguar engines: supercharged 4.2L and 4.4L V8 petrol plus a 3.6L TDV8 diesel. The grille was redesigned, LED headlights appeared, and the cabin became even more luxurious.
Final version (2010-2012) - the last years saw the introduction of a powerful 5.0L supercharged V8 (510 hp in Autobiography trim) and a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The front end became more aggressive, and the infotainment system gained a touchscreen.
Bumper material: Polypropylene plus ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer. Marked >PP+EPDM<
