The first-generation Volvo XC60 (MK1) is a compact luxury SUV that debuted in 2008 and quickly became one of the Swedish brand's most popular models. Its balanced design, high safety standards, and comfort made it a favorite among European SUV enthusiasts.

Body Types

The XC60 MK1 was produced exclusively as a five-door SUV. Unlike some competitors, Volvo never offered a three-door version or long-wheelbase variant. However, in China, there was a model called the XC60 Classic - the previous version that continued production alongside the updated model for the local market.

2013 Facelift

In 2013, the XC60 underwent a significant update. Externally, the front bumper, grille, and LED headlights were modified. But the main changes concerned technology:

  • New Sensus multimedia system with large screen

  • Enhanced safety systems: City Safety (automatic braking) now worked at higher speeds

  • New engines introduced, including the T8 Twin Engine hybrid (from 2015)

This facelift made the XC60 even more competitive against the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.

Bumper material: Polypropylene + ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, with 20% mineral filler. Marking >PP+EPDM-TD20<

Model Description

The first-generation XC60 was based on the Volvo P3 platform, shared with the S80, V70 and XC70, providing excellent handling and ride comfort. The interior reflected typical Scandinavian minimalism: quality materials, ergonomic seats and intuitive controls.

Available engines ranged from gasoline to diesel, including economical D3 and D4 models as well as powerful T6 and T8 versions (the latter only after the facelift). AWD was available on most versions, while front-wheel drive models appeared later to reduce cost and consumption.

Interesting Facts

  • First Volvo with City Safety: The XC60 was the brand's first model to feature standard automatic braking

  • Polestar Performance Version: The tuning division developed a high-performance XC60 Polestar with a 3.0L T6 engine (350 hp)
